Öz

Obezite, dünya genelinde ekonomiler üzerinde doğrudan sağlık harcamalarını arttıran önemli bir sorundur. Dolayısıyla, ülke ekonomileri üzerinde büyük maliyet yüküne sebep olmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, gelişmiş ve gelişmekte olan ülkelerde obezitenin ekonomik sonuçlarını araştırmaktır. 2003-2022 döneminde, gelişmiş ve gelişmekte olan ülkelerden toplamda 161 ülke analiz edilmiştir. Analizde, Windmeijer’in dirençli standart hataları kullanılarak, Arellano ve Bond iki aşamalı genelleştirilmiş momentler tahmincisi ile tahmin yapılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre, gelişmiş ülkeler olan yüksek gelirli ülkelerde obezite oranları arttıkça, sağlık harcamalarının arttığını göstermiştir. Gelişmekte olan tüm ülkelerden ise üst orta gelirli ülkelerde obezite oranları arttıkça, sağlık harcamalarının arttığını göstermiştir. Ancak gelişmekte olan ülkeler arasında bulunan alt-orta gelirli ülkelerde obezite oranlarının sağlık harcamaları üzerinde bir etkisi bulunamamıştır. Obezitenin sağlık harcamaları dolayısıyla, ülke ekonomileri üzerindeki maliyet yükü açıkça görülmektedir. Tüm ülkelerin obezite konusuna öncelikli yer vermeleri ve önleyici politikalar geliştirmeleri önemlidir.
