Abstract

The defence industry is a complex sector where high-cost, long-term, large-scale projects are undertaken, involving processes such as risk and stakeholder management. Within this context, project culture is vital, as successful execution often requires collaboration across large teams and multiple organisations. Effective project management is a key driver in achieving organisational goals, and employees' perceptions of these processes can significantly influence project outcomes. This study investigates the perceptions of defence industry employees regarding project culture. A validated and reliable scale measuring five dimensions of project culture was employed. Data were collected from 229 participants through both online surveys and face-to-face questionnaires. The findings indicate that employees perceive project culture at a moderate level overall. Significant differences were observed based on age, education level, and tenure. While project culture awareness and cultural alignment appear stable in sectors with strong hierarchical structures, such as the defence industry, there remains a need for further improvement efforts. The results are expected to inform efforts to strengthen project culture awareness and foster more effective project environments in the defence sector.
